| New Look ECS-TV - Now with Widgets/Gadgets | Wednesday 4th April 2007 |
To coincide with the launch of the new look website, ECS-TV now has player software which not only works in the browser but is also available for downlaod direct to your desktop to use as a widget/gadget. The new look player is still under development however the latest version can be found via the LIVE link on the home page. The Mac OS X widget can be found on the software page. Expect the Vista gadget in the near future.

ECS-TV is proud to be the official provider of the much awaited inaugural lecture of Professor Sir Tim Berners-Lee at the University of Southampton. The Lecture entitled "The World Wide Web: looking back, looking forward" provides a rare opportunity to see the inventor of the Web, hear his views on what he thinks of the web now and where this big part of everyday life is now heading. We hope that everyone was able to connect to the stream on the day, ECS-TV would like to appologise on behalf of the University of Southampton for the audio levels which could not be adjusted during the lecture. After the recent expansion to 45 Freeview channels ECS-TV now provides a LIVE! Audience Figures page so you can see what is being watched and when. The latest IPv6 technologies on the ECS network make this possible. Yes! The project is project still going and has some major work done on it so this is a big news update. Many areas are now finished and in use, with new exciting new sub projects under development. ECS-TV Interactive Service Online
ECS-TV Admin is now online allowing users to customise their own learning experience as well as adding to that of others. ECS-TVi provides a service for registered users (all ECS members) allowing them to take control of their own TV service and content, including both 'Live' and 'On Demand' content. Podcasting Service Online
The ECS-TV Podcasting Service provides latest feeds from the ECS-TV service available to download. Fully compliant with the Apple iTunes and iPod standards these feeds can be viewed and downloaded to the new video iPod. | ||||

A group of students from ECS, the School of Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton, are currently showcasing the new ECS-TV service at the Blue Fusion Science Week event at IBM.s Hursley Research Lab. According to Dr Tim Chown, who leads the IPv6 initiative in Southampton: "ECS-TV realises the coming of age of multimedia communications. The Vice Chancellor of the University of Southampton paid a visit to the school today to witness the latest technological developments and research projects being undertaken in each department. ECS-TV was honored to be given a apot in this busy schedule with positive feedback being given all round for the work done so far. Today saw the official launch of ECS-TV in the School of Electronics and Computer Science both as an academic service and a reconised reseach project led by Dr Les Carr. The ceremony proved to be the place to be with many staff turning up to witness not only Wendy's speech being transmitted live accross department but also many examples and talks on possible applications for the service. |
