ECS-TV System Details
Interactive Services
ECS-TVi provides pre-recorded programs on demand via an interactive web interface. By using a browser plugin (vlc) which can be used in gecko based browsers such as Mozilla, ECS-TVi is able to syncronize multimedia video/audio with static slide content.
Requirements
The user is required to submit 2 sections of metadata and 2 corresponding files to the ECS-TV servers via the web interface. The metadata consists of all the details to do with the content which they are swubmitting and the timings for the slides with the 2 required files being the video and the slide content.
Requirement 1 - Metadata
The ECS-TVi web interface provides a series of forms which users can fill in to provide a complete set of metadata for the content they wish to submit. Depending on the content this could be a short 2 minute process or a longer 10 minute one. For this reason the submission pages have a 24 hour cache time built in such that metadata can be provided in advance of the content being produced, this can later be modified and submitted finally with the other required steps. The ECS-TVi system is preloaded with all the information specific to the School of Electronics and Computer Science including Degree Programms, Courses and members of the school (staff and students).
Auto Locate Fields
Submission forms contain auto locate fields which are provided to check if the data you wish to submit is already in the data base. These are easily identifiable by the locate button provided adjacent to the field in question. Figure 5.1 shows one such field which is used to locate a person within the system.

Note: If unsure of the content required for an autolocate field to work hovering the mouse over the fields name will tell you.
